About · Maiden, North Carolina

Matt Smith, and a pit full of dirt

Smith Mine is Matt Smith. Started in 2020, based in Maiden, working across Catawba County and Lincoln County.

The dirt comes out of our own pit. That is the whole reason we can be quick about it. We are not calling around to find you a load, we are loading it ourselves and driving it to you.

Same with the machines. Trucks, track loader, excavators and a dozer, all ours. One crew, one number to call, and Matt is the one who answers it.

The pit

We are not buying dirt to sell you

Most outfits hauling dirt are buying it from somebody else and marking it up. We dig ours, screen it and load it ourselves.

That is why a load can go out the same week instead of whenever a supplier can fit you in, and why the fill comes clean rather than full of roots and rock.

Screened topsoil comes off the same screener. If you need dirt to fill and topsoil to grow grass on top of it, both come off one yard on one truck.
